Message from the President  4/1/2010

With the 2010 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games now in the history books, we are reminded again of the vital role Canada’s language industry plays at the heart of many major international events.

While the athletes in Vancouver competed at the highest levels of human capacity, behind the scenes language professionals worked diligently to meet the multilingual communication needs of athletes, dignitaries and spectators to ensure a clear and timely flow of information across linguistic barriers.

As we look forward, in 2010 Canadian language professionals will be centre stage during the G8 and the G20 Summits. Beyond this year we will see our industry play a key role in the rollout of such events as the International Indian Film Academy Awards (2011), WorldPride (2014) and the Pan and Parapan American Games (2015). These events bring tens of thousands of visitors to our country, millions of dollars in revenues and further elevate Canada’s global reputation as an ethnically diverse centre of progress and innovation.

I am proud to be part of an industry which plays such a key roll in so many prominent world events and I hope you will join me in saluting the thousands of people in the language industry that enhance our country’s reputation on the world stage.
